Sangria Night!

Sangria is a wine-based fresh fruit and juice punch popular in Spain and Portugal. Though sangria is usually a summer drink, it can be enjoyed year round by using seasonal fruits. On Boxing Day, I introduced my special recipe to some friends and colleagues. Sharing my now-famous Perfect Sangria recipe last week was a real pleasure. To make it really tasty, I spent part of my Christmas day collecting the ingredients (see below) and prepping the fruit. In the evening of the 26th, I shared the procedure for making the drink and introduced the various alcohols used. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening which was highlighted by chatting and sharing- and of course drinking! Here’s the recipe and some photos:
n Collect all necessary ingredients (for 6-8)
§ 1 Large punch bowl (or container)
§ 2 bottles of Red (white) wine (Any red table wine is fine, I chose a mix of Cabernet and Shiraz (~NT250/btl)
§ 20~40cc of Cognac (Brandy can be used instead of Cognac)
§ 1 cup of Lime’s lime juice
§ 2 bottles of citrus juices- (to taste) orange/grapefruit
§ 8-10 pieces of Fruit- (to taste) for my recipe use apple, pear, orange, grapefruit, pineapple (use seasonal fruits)
§ 1/3 cup Sugar
Directions: Prepare the fruit by chopping into small pieces. Add the sugar and let sit for 10-20 minutes. After sitting, add the lime juice and cognac/brandy to cover the fruit. Put in the refrigerator and let soak over night. Hint: the longer you let the fruit soak the more cognac/brandy it will absorb. Chill your wine and juice. When ready for your party add the juice and wine and serve cold! Enjoy your party!
